One of the country’s private airlines, US-Bangla Airlines, has opted to invest in next generation wide-body aircraft Airbus 330 so that it may expand its service to the Saudi Arabia, which is home to the biggest expatriate Bangladeshi population, and other Middle Eastern countries.

According to a news statement released here today by the airlines, they will first purchase two A-330 aircraft with a seating capacity of 436 each in May next year.

The airlines planned to begin service to the Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam routes from and to Dhaka using these wide-body aircraft beginning in June to meet the needs of the growing number of Umrah pilgrims and Bangladeshi expats travelling to the various cities throughout Saudi Arabia.

The airlines claim that by offering flights to many cities in Saudi Arabia, they can lower the overall transit costs for their Bangladeshi customers.

Besides serving seven local destinations from Dhaka, US-Bangla also flies internationally to Kolkata, Male, Dubai, Sharjah, Muscat, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Chennai, and Guangzhou.

There are now 17 planes in the US-Bangla fleet, comprising 7 Boeing 737-800, 7 ATR 72-600, and 3 Dash 8-Q400 planes.

Another ATR 72-600 and a Boeing 737-800 will be joining US-fleet Bangla’s this month, according to the announcement.
