Brisbane, 22 July 2025: Two 18-year-old men have been charged following the stabbing of a French tourist who was allegedly trying to break up a street fight in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane’s nightlife district.
According to Queensland Police, the incident occurred around 3:30am on Friday, near the corner of Wickham Street and Brunswick Street.
Investigators allege a physical altercation broke out on the footpath, during which a 21-year-old French national was stabbed multiple times in the chest. The tourist had reportedly been out with friends when he attempted to intervene in a fight outside a bottle shop.
“He was right in the middle trying to stop the fight when he was stabbed, I think, three times,” said his friend Hugo to 7NEWS. “He started bleeding a lot. We called the ambulance and police, and they arrived pretty quickly.”
The victim was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.
Police said the two accused fled the scene but were apprehended shortly after on nearby Costin Street.

Acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm
Assault
Possession of a knife in public
An 18-year-old man from Bald Hills faces one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
Both are scheduled to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 26.
Queensland Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and urged any witnesses to come forward.
