Darwin, 03 October-
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Moscow will take “serious and tough” countermeasures in response to the rapid militarization of Europe.
Speaking at a foreign policy forum in Sochi, Putin accused NATO and Western nations of fueling confrontation under the pretext of defense. He described their actions as “meaningless hysteria,” claiming that every NATO country is now effectively involved in a war against Russia through arms supplies, intelligence sharing, and hostile rhetoric.
Putin particularly criticized Germany’s ambition to build the strongest army in Europe, suggesting it reflects dangerous intentions. He stressed that Russia would not show weakness or hesitation in the face of such developments.
The Russian leader also warned Ukraine against any attempt to attack the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which remains under Russian control, cautioning that such an act could provoke a severe response.
Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, relations with the European Union have deteriorated sharply. In response, European nations have significantly expanded their defense spending and military readiness. Meanwhile, repeated incidents of alleged Russian violations of NATO airspace have heightened concerns that the conflict could escalate beyond Ukraine’s borders.
