Bangladesh Create History with Record-Breaking Victory in Australia
Darwin, August 16 : Darwin witnessed a new dawn for Bangladesh cricket today. In a historic triumph on Australian soil, the Tigers defeated the hosts…
Former Australian captain and Nine commentator Mark ‘Tubby’ Taylor has issued a major warning to fans: legendary spinner Nathan Lyon may be overlooked for the crucial First Ashes Test in Perth.
Taylor believes the selectors’ decision hinges entirely on the fitness of star all-rounder Cameron Green.
“If Green is fit, he will play. When I say fit, I mean fit to bowl,” Taylor stated on Nine’s Wide World of Sports.
The veteran spinner, who is closing in on his 140th Test, could be the sacrificial lamb if selectors opt for a five-man pace attack complemented by Green. Taylor pointed out that Australia has done this once this year, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if it happens again for the opening match against England.

“The only other way they can go is by playing all their quicks and [Beau] Webster and Green, then not have an off-spinner,” Taylor said. “They’ve got Travis Head and Beau himself bowls a few offies. They might do that for Perth, which I don’t like particularly. I think Nathan has to play, but don’t be surprised.”
If Green plays, Taylor believes the unlucky player to miss out would be middle-order all-rounder Beau Webster, as the side prioritizes getting the vital all-rounder into the XI.
Taylor also commented on other selection news, noting he was “not surprised” by the axing of young batsman Sam Konstas for the second time in his brief Test career.
Instead, Taylor strongly backed veteran batter Jake Weatherald for a Test debut in the upcoming series, urging selectors to finalize a stable opening partnership. “He has a few years left in him and he deserves that selection. So well done to him, I hope he plays at the top of the order.”
The First Ashes Test starts in Perth on November 21.
