SINGAPORE: Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho and a prominent political activist, passed away on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. He had been fighting for his life for six days after being shot in the capital last week.
The Announcement Inqilab Moncho officially announced his passing in a Facebook post at approximately 9:40 pm on Thursday. The platform described Hadi as a “great revolutionary” and a “martyr” in their struggle against “Indian hegemony.”
Hadi was shot while traveling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the Paltan area of Dhaka.
He was first rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later moved to Evercare Hospital as his condition turned critical.
On Saturday, he was flown to Singapore for advanced surgical intervention.
On Wednesday night, Singapore’s Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan called Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, describing Hadi’s condition as “extremely critical.”
Looming Unrest in Shahbagh Before his death was confirmed, Inqilab Moncho issued a stern warning to the authorities. The platform has called for a mass gathering at Shahbagh, threatening to bring the country to a standstill until the attackers are arrested.
“If the killer flees to India, they must be arrested and brought back at any cost through discussions with the Indian government,” the platform stated, emphasizing that the sit-in will continue indefinitely until their demands are met.
