The incident occurred on Sunday at Talsari Sea Beach, near Digha in West Bengal, during the shooting of a television serial. He was 43 years old.
According to reports, Rahul had gone to Talsari with the production unit to shoot for the serial “Bhole Baba Par Karega.” At one point during the shoot, he entered the sea and suddenly went underwater. Realizing the situation, technicians immediately rushed to rescue him.
Members of the unit said that after being submerged for some time, he was pulled out. He was quickly taken to Digha Hospital, but it was initially reported that he had died before reaching there. Doctors later declared him dead. His body has been kept at the hospital for post-mortem examination.
Rahul’s co-actor Bhaskar Banerjee said that the incident happened after the shoot had wrapped up. He said, “We had finished shooting and went for lunch. Rahul said he would go and take a few more shots. We never imagined something like this would happen. It’s very hard to accept that such a healthy and lively person is gone.”
From the Artists’ Forum, actor Diganta Bagchi said Rahul entered the water after the shoot ended. He added, “Perhaps Rahul didn’t know how to swim, or his feet got stuck in the sand. Suddenly technicians shouted that he was drowning. When he was rescued, he was still alive, but he was declared dead after being taken to the hospital.”
Rahul’s driver said, “He was moving toward the water. I repeatedly warned him, but he didn’t listen.”
The exact cause of the incident is still unclear. Initially, it appears to be a case of drowning, but more details will be known after the post-mortem report.
Born on October 16, 1983, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee was a well-known face in Bengali film and television. He acted in more than 450 dramas.
