Darwin, 12 April: Australia has called for the continuation of a ceasefire in the Middle East following the conclusion of talks between the United States and Iran that ended without any agreement.
In a statement, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in the region. She stated that the immediate priority should be to uphold the ceasefire and return to diplomatic negotiations.
“The focus now must be on sustaining the ceasefire and re-engaging in dialogue,” Wong said, underscoring the need for continued diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
Wong also expressed disappointment over the outcome of the discussions held in Islamabad. The meeting between the United States and Iran concluded without reaching any form of agreement, raising concerns about the future of peace efforts in the region.
“It is deeply disappointing that the Islamabad talks between the United States and Iran have ended without any understanding,” she added.
The lack of progress in negotiations has heightened uncertainty in the Middle East, prompting international calls for restraint and renewed diplomatic engagement to avoid further conflict.
