Darwin, 09 May : The University of South Florida (USF) has posthumously awarded PhD degrees to two Bangladeshi students, Jamil Ahmed Limon and Nahida Sultana Brishti, who were tragically murdered while studying in the United States.

The degrees were received on their behalf by a representative from the Bangladeshi Consulate in Miami during the university’s spring commencement ceremony.

Limon and Brishti went missing on April 16. Limon’s roommate, U.S. citizen Hisham Abugharbeh, was later arrested in connection with the murders.

On April 24, Limon’s body was found in black trash bags near the Howard Frankland Bridge in Florida, while Brishti’s dismembered remains were recovered from a nearby water body on April 26 and later confirmed by police.

The university honored the students for their contributions to research and higher education. Authorities have charged Abugharbeh with two counts of first-degree murder, and a weapon was recovered as part of the investigation.
