Darwin, 23 May : Tulsi Gabbard is reportedly stepping down from her position as the United States Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to support her husband, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, according to a report by.
The report said Gabbard informed President of her decision during a meeting at the Oval Office on Friday. Her final working day at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is expected to be June 30.
Fox News reported that it had obtained Gabbard’s resignation letter, in which she expressed gratitude to Trump for entrusting her with the role.
“I am deeply grateful for your trust and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the past year and a half,” Gabbard reportedly wrote.
“Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer,” she added.
“At this moment, I need to step away from government service to be by his side and provide him with full support during this fight,” the letter reportedly stated.
During her tenure as DNI, Gabbard introduced what the report described as transformative measures aimed at restructuring the US intelligence community. As of this month, she had reportedly overseen the release of more than 500,000 pages of previously classified government documents.
The released materials reportedly included records related to the Trump–Russia investigation, as well as documents concerning the assassinations of and , among other issues.
Gabbard had also taken a position at odds with claims by Trump and Israel that Iran was on the verge of developing a nuclear bomb. She had stated that there were no indications suggesting Iran would build a nuclear weapon in the near future.
