Darwin, 08 July : Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for launching attacks on 85 key U.S. military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for recent U.S. strikes. The IRGC also claimed to have shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone.
According to The Times of Israel, citing a statement broadcast by Iran’s state-run media outlet IRIB, the IRGC said, “As an initial response to the aggression, the IRGC Navy and Aerospace Force jointly targeted 85 key U.S. military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait using missiles and drones.”
The IRGC stated that the targets included Bandar Salman in Bahrain, the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, and Kuwait’s Ali Al Salem Air Base, along with several other military installations. It described the operation as a retaliatory response amid the fragile situation surrounding the recent ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, air raid sirens were reportedly activated in both Bahrain and Kuwait, according to local officials. Kuwait’s military said it had activated its air defense systems to intercept what it described as “hostile” missiles and drones.
Earlier, the United States launched fresh strikes on several Iranian military facilities following attacks on three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington also imposed new sanctions targeting Iran’s oil exports.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation destroyed more than 60 small vessels belonging to the IRGC. According to CENTCOM, the strikes were intended to make Iran “pay a heavy price” for allegedly violating the ceasefire and attacking international maritime shipping.
In response, Iran warned that it would retaliate forcefully against the U.S. strikes, declaring that its response would be “crushing.”
