Darwin, 10 July : A key railway bridge in Iran’s northern Golestan province was targeted in an attack early Thursday morning, with Iranian authorities claiming that the strike was carried out by the United States. Local media reported that the attack damaged a section of an important rail corridor connecting Iran with China and Russia.
Iran’s state-run Mehr News Agency reported that a missile struck the Ak Teke Khan railway bridge in Golestan province. Emergency response teams and relevant authorities rushed to the site shortly after the attack to assess the extent of the damage. However, no detailed information on the casualties or damage was immediately released.
Later, the Neynavah Corps, the provincial operational unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ground forces stationed in Golestan, claimed that a US cruise missile hit the bridge. According to the group, there were no reports of casualties in the incident.
Earlier, reports emerged of fresh US strikes late Wednesday night targeting several facilities in southern and southeastern Iran.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) later said in a statement that the additional strikes were conducted with the aim of further weakening Iran’s ability to pose a potential threat to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The damage to the railway bridge has raised concerns among observers over its potential impact on Iran’s international rail connectivity, particularly its links with China and Russia. However, no official details have yet been released regarding the full extent of the damage or its impact on rail operations.
