Darwin, 15 July : Iran has launched the eighth phase of its military campaign against the United States, carrying out drone strikes on American military bases across the Middle East. The Iranian military said the attacks targeted multiple US installations, including the area housing F/A-18 fighter jets at Jordan’s Azraq Air Base. Additional strikes were also reported at several other locations, with Iran claiming they caused extensive damage. The developments were reported by Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera on Wednesday (July 15).
In a statement broadcast by Iran’s state-run IRIB, the Iranian military said explosive-laden drones struck the section of Azraq Air Base where F/A-18 fighter aircraft are stationed, as well as large equipment hangars, marking the second such attack on the facility.
Meanwhile, Iran claimed to have destroyed several key targets at the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), strikes carried out earlier in the day hit the base’s command-and-control center, naval support management center, warehouses, and fuel storage tanks, causing significant damage.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense said the country’s air defense systems had been activated in response to the Iranian drone attacks. Loud explosions were reported across the country as air defense units intercepted incoming drones.
The IRGC also claimed responsibility for an attack on the main US military logistics and support hub in West Asia, located in Kuwait’s Mina Abdullah area.
In a separate statement carried by IRIB, the Guard Corps said the strike was conducted during the fourth phase of Operation Nasr-2, claiming the attack ignited fires at the facility and inflicted extensive damage.
