Brazil and Argentina Secure Impressive Wins Ahead of the World Cup

Darwin, 07 June : Today marked Brazil’s final warm-up match before the World Cup, with their opponents, Egypt, also set to compete in the tournament.

In the match played in Cleveland, United States, Brazil defeated the African side 2–1. Bruno Guimarães and Endrick scored the goals for the Seleção.

Argentina, meanwhile, played their first warm-up match today. The reigning world champions secured a 2–0 victory over Honduras. Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring before Giuliano Simeone added a second goal.

Wesley in Tears During Brazil’s Victory

Brazil right-back Wesley was forced to leave the field after just 15 minutes due to pain in his left groin. After the match, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said that the 22-year-old defender would undergo further medical examinations before a final decision is made regarding his condition.

The Roma defender received his first-ever World Cup call-up this year. Fearing that the injury could cost him his place in the World Cup squad, Wesley broke down in tears while sitting on the bench. Teammates and members of the coaching staff were seen consoling him.

Although Ancelotti expressed sympathy for the player after the match, he made it clear that the national team has “other players capable of replacing him.”

The victory over Egypt concluded Brazil’s World Cup preparations. Earlier, Ancelotti’s side had defeated Panama 6–2.

Brazil’s quest for a record sixth World Cup title will begin on June 13 against Morocco. They will then face Haiti on June 19 and Scotland on June 24.

Argentina Test Their Strength Without Messi

Lionel Messi did not feature for Argentina in their match at Kyle Field Stadium in College Station, Texas. There had already been indications that he would miss the game due to a minor discomfort.

Argentina took the lead in the 37th minute after Nicolás Tagliafico was fouled inside the penalty area. Lautaro Martínez converted the resulting penalty to put his side ahead.

Early in the second half, Atlético Madrid forward Giuliano Simeone doubled Argentina’s lead. He finished from close range after receiving a clever backheel pass from Martínez.

Shortly after Simeone’s goal, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni made four substitutions. Giovani Lo Celso, Thiago Almada, Lisandro Martínez, and Lautaro Martínez were replaced by Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández, Cristian Romero, and José López. However, the substitutes made little impact on the match in its closing stages.

Argentina will begin their World Cup campaign against Algeria on June 16. The other teams in their group are Austria and Jordan. Before that, Scaloni’s side will play their final warm-up match against Iceland on June 9.
