Wrestling Legend Hulk Hogan Passes Away

Melbourne, 25 July — World-renowned American wrestler Hulk Hogan has passed away at the age of 71. Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan died on Thursday (local time) at his home in Florida, USA. His manager, Chris Volo, confirmed that the wrestling legend died of cardiac arrest. Family members were reportedly by his side at the time of his death.

Hogan began his professional wrestling career in 1977, but it was his debut in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in 1983 that catapulted him to overnight superstardom. With his signature long blond hair, iconic mustache, and charismatic presence, Hulk Hogan became the face of American wrestling.

During the 1980s, when wrestling was at its peak in popularity, Hogan was one of its leading figures. He also gained widespread popularity beyond the ring through his VH1 reality show Hogan Knows Best (2005–2007).

In recent years, Hogan had also been a topic of discussion in American politics due to his vocal support for former President Donald Trump. Following Hogan’s passing, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social:
“Today, I lost an extraordinary friend. Hulk Hogan was a MAGA man — strong, smart, and full of heart. His speech at the Republican National Convention was one of the event’s highlights.”

Hogan had undergone throat surgery in May and heart surgery in June, which had already raised concerns among family and fans. On Thursday morning around 10 a.m., police and emergency medical services responded to a call at his Clearwater, Florida residence. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital at 11:17 a.m. Police stated that while there’s no sign of foul play, an official investigation will still be conducted.

WWE has issued a statement mourning the loss:
“Hulk Hogan was not just a WWE icon but one of the most recognizable faces of 1980s pop culture. His contributions helped make WWE a global brand. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”

Hogan was a six-time WWE Champion and headlined WrestleMania eight times. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. His legendary matches against The Rock, Randy Savage, and André the Giant are still remembered as some of the most iconic moments in wrestling history.

Wrestling legends around the world have been shaken by the news. Ric Flair said, “I’m speechless. Hogan was incredibly talented, a true friend, and a wonderful human being. He held a special place in my life. He was always there for me.”
The Undertaker tweeted, “The wrestling world has lost a true legend. His contributions are irreplaceable.”
