Darwin, September 11 – Over the past two years, the occupying state of Israel has been brutally and indiscriminately killing innocent Palestinians. So far, more than 64,000 innocent lives have been taken by Israel.
In response to this relentless massacre, the global artistic community has taken a strong stance. Around 1,200 artists from Hollywood and various countries around the world have announced that they will no longer take part in any cultural or film-related work involving Israel.
In a joint statement, the artists declared they would not act in films produced by Israeli production companies. Moreover, they will not participate in any film festivals held in Israel. As a result, prestigious festivals such as the Jerusalem Film Festival, Haifa International Film Festival, Docaviv, Tel Aviv International Documentary Film Festival, and TLVFest will no longer feature their films or appearances.
In a statement from “Film Workers for Palestine,” it was said: “At such a critical moment, when many governments around the world continue to support genocide, we must do everything possible to stop this horror. Israeli film production houses, distributors, or sales agents have never stood up for the rightful cause of the Palestinians.”
Actress Hannah Einbinder said: “What has been happening in Gaza for the past two years shakes the conscience. As a Jewish American citizen, I believe we must do everything we can to stop this genocide. At this crucial time, when leaders are failing, it is up to artists to step forward. We must stop working with Israel.”
Along with Hannah Einbinder, the list also includes Emma Stone, Olivia Colman, Ayo Edebiri, Lily Gladstone, Mark Ruffalo, Hannah Einbinder, Peter Sarsgaard, Aimee Lou Wood, Papa Essiedu, Gael García Bernal, Riz Ahmed, Melissa Barrera, Cynthia Nixon, Tilda Swinton, Javier Bardem, Joe Alwyn, Josh O’Connor and many others.
Among the filmmakers, the list features Yorgos Lanthimos, Ava DuVernay, Adam McKay, Boots Riley, Emma Seligman, Joshua Oppenheimer, Mike Leigh and others.
