Darwin, Sept 23 – France, along with six other nations, has officially recognized Palestine as an independent state, marking a major diplomatic development in the Middle East conflict.
The recognition came simultaneously from the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and several European partners. Leaders of these countries emphasized that the decision aims to revive hopes for a two-state solution and to support long-term peace in the region.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the recognition was a necessary step to ensure justice for the Palestinian people and to uphold international law. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer echoed this view, saying that the move was crucial for restoring faith in the peace process.
Israel strongly condemned the decision, arguing that recognition at this stage rewards terrorism and undermines security. Israeli officials warned that the step could further complicate diplomatic efforts.
Meanwhile, Palestine welcomed the recognition, calling it a “historic milestone” that strengthens its struggle for sovereignty. Palestinian leaders expressed hope that more countries would follow suit, increasing international pressure to end the decades-long occupation.
Analysts suggest that this recognition could reshape the global approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, intensifying debate over the path toward a sustainable peace settlement.
