Darwin, September 27 — On the 4th day of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly today, Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was the first speaker. However, as soon as he took the podium, representatives and leaders from hundreds of countries walked out of the hall.
According to Israeli media The Times of Israel, it was not only Arab and Muslim delegates who walked out — diplomats from several African and European nations also exited the room. During this, Netanyahu’s supporters clapped loudly, including his wife and New York City’s mayor Eric Adams.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s office ordered that his speech be broadcast over loudspeakers into Gaza. Reports based on Israeli Hebrew media Channel 12 News and Haaretz, as cited by The Times of Israel, indicate that loudspeakers were installed all along the Gaza border to transmit his address live into the territory.
Images and videos circulating on social media show military vehicles and cranes along Gaza’s border with loudspeakers mounted on them. Some senior Israeli military officials have warned that this plan is risky — it may require troops to enter zones that Hamas could target.
Families of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza have also strongly criticized the plan. They accuse Netanyahu of using the hostages’ lives as a political tool to further his ambitions.
