Darwin, NT : Northern Territory Police have launched an investigation after a 7-year-old girl tragically died this afternoon when she was struck by a falling palm tree at a residence in Tiwi.
At approximately 1:55pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report of the incident. The young girl had been playing in the yard when the tree fell, striking her.
Police and St John Ambulance responded to the scene and the child was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital. However, she was pronounced dead before arrival.
An 11-year-old boy was also struck by the tree but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have stated that the incident is not believed to be suspicious. Investigations remain ongoing, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
