A female hiker was rescued from the Larapinta Trail after the Northern Territory Police Force (NTPF) received an emergency beacon alert yesterday evening.
At around 7:45 pm, police were notified by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) that an emergency beacon had been activated between Hugh Gorge and Serpentine Gorge on the trail.
The NTPF’s Search and Rescue Section (SRS) coordinated the response, deploying officers alongside St John Ambulance (SJA) paramedics. The hiker was found at 1:30 am and assessed by medical personnel before being transported safely to Alice Springs.
Senior Sergeant Paul Wood of the SRS praised the hiker for carrying an emergency beacon, emphasizing its importance for safety in remote areas. He advised future hikers to carry sufficient supplies, share their travel plans, and always bring an EPIRB, PLB, or satellite communication device.
