Darwin, 01 November — The U.S. space agency NASA has publicly rejected reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s recent claim that the first human moon landing in 1969 was “staged.”
According to a report published by the BBC on Friday, NASA’s Acting Administrator Sean Duffy responded on social media, writing:
“Yes, we’ve been to the Moon… six times!”
Kardashian made the controversial remark during the latest episode of her hit reality show, The Kardashians, telling co-star Sarah Paulson that she believed the Apollo 11 moon landing “never actually happened.”
Despite being debunked for over five decades, moon-landing conspiracy theories continue to circulate—especially with the rise of social media.
In the episode, Kardashian shows Paulson an interview clip of Buzz Aldrin, one of the Apollo 11 astronauts who, along with Neil Armstrong, became the first humans to walk on the lunar surface in 1969.
“I’ll send you hundreds of interviews with Buzz Aldrin and others,” Kardashian says, before reading a supposed quote attributed to Aldrin:
“There was nothing to fear, because it didn’t happen. I could have been scared, but there was nothing to be scared of—because it never happened.”
However, it remains unclear where Kardashian sourced the quote, or whether Aldrin ever made such a statement.
She later tells the show’s producer, “I think the moon landing was fake. I’ve seen videos where Buzz Aldrin himself says it didn’t happen. Maybe we should go find him.”
Following the episode’s broadcast, NASA’s Sean Duffy tagged Kardashian on X (formerly Twitter), reaffirming the agency’s accomplishments and promoting the ongoing Artemis Program, which aims to return humans to the Moon.
“We won the space race before — and we’ll win it again,” Duffy wrote.
The Artemis mission, currently progressing under the administration of President Donald Trump, is NASA’s renewed effort to establish a sustained human presence on the Moon.
Kardashian later replied humorously, asking, “Wait… what’s going on with 3I/Atlas!? Isn’t that the oldest comet or something?”
In response, Duffy invited her to attend the upcoming Artemis launch at the Kennedy Space Center.
Scientists and experts have long dismissed moon-landing hoax theories. The Institute of Physics stated:
“Every single argument claiming NASA faked the moon landing has been thoroughly debunked.”
