Darwin, 26 June : Australia secured a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage despite being held to a goalless draw by Paraguay…
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and fiancée Jodie Haydon prepare for a ‘small and intimate’ ceremony before the end of the year. Speculation mounts over whether the nuptials will take place at The Lodge or Kirribilli House.
Darwin, Australia: PM Anthony Albanese and Jodie Haydon are counting down to their historic wedding—the first for a sitting Australian PM. The couple will host a private, intimate ceremony this year.
The countdown is officially underway for a wedding that will make Australian political history, as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese prepares to marry his fiancée, Jodie Haydon, before the end of the year.
The wedding will mark the first time an Australian Prime Minister has married while in office, a fact that has drawn comparisons to a local “royal wedding,” according to former Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.
Despite the high-profile nature of the couple, the Prime Minister has been insistent that the event will be strictly private and non-political. Albanese previously stated the ceremony will have no world leaders in attendance, telling a Brisbane radio station, “It’s an event between myself and Jodie.”
Haydon, a financial services professional, echoed this desire for privacy, confirming to The Australian Women’s Weekly that the ceremony would be “small and intimate,” and “possibly outdoors.”
The couple’s beloved pet cavoodle, Toto, is also guaranteed to make an appearance.
While details are scarce, the consensus is that the wedding will take place after Parliament breaks for the Christmas period at the end of November.
The location remains unconfirmed, but two front-runners are being widely tipped as potential venues:
The Lodge (the Prime Minister’s official residence in Canberra).
Kirribilli House (the Prime Minister’s Sydney residence), near Albanese’s home city.
The couple, who bonded over their shared love of the South Sydney Rabbitohs after meeting at a Melbourne event in 2020, were engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2024 at The Lodge with a custom-designed ring.
