QUEENSLAND : Nearly 100,000 Optus customers across Queensland are currently grappling with a widespread outage impacting National Broadband Network (NBN) services.
Optus confirmed that the issue is affecting approximately 95,000 customers in Brisbane and various other parts of the state today, leaving scores of households and businesses without internet access. Reports on the monitoring website DownDetector indicate that the disruption extends far beyond the capital, with customers reporting issues in areas including Robertson, Greenbank, Clifton Beach, and broader North Queensland.
The problem is primarily hitting landline customers. While mobile phone services remain unaffected, customers relying on older modems without 4G or 5G backup may also find their home phone calls impacted, utilizing the NBN connection.
The telecommunications giant has publicly apologized for the massive disruption, stating, “We sincerely apologise for the disruption and thank customers for their patience while our teams work as quickly as possible to restore services.”
However, Optus has been unable to provide a timeline for when NBN connections will be fully restored. Furthermore, the company has not yet confirmed whether the outage has impacted the ability of affected customers to make calls to triple zero emergency services, a critical concern for public safety.
Customers are advised that once the underlying technical issue is resolved, they will be required to manually turn their modems off and on again to re-establish their NBN connection.
