Bangladesh Create History with Record-Breaking Victory in Australia
Darwin, August 16 : Darwin witnessed a new dawn for Bangladesh cricket today. In a historic triumph on Australian soil, the Tigers defeated the hosts…
BRISBANE: Australia has confirmed the return of captain and fast bowler Pat Cummins for the third Ashes Test in Adelaide next week, the only change to the squad that secured consecutive victories in the first two matches. His addition significantly boosts the hosts as they seek to retain the Ashes with a draw or clinch the series with a win.
Cummins, who missed the first two Tests due to a back problem, has been moving well in training and will reclaim the leadership role from stand-in captain Steve Smith. Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey confirmed the uplift in the camp: “He looks like he’s moving really well. He’s been around the group the whole time with lots of energy.”
While Cummins’ return strengthens the pace attack, the selectors face tough decisions, particularly concerning the batting lineup and the balance of the bowling unit.
Spin and Seam: Off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who was controversially left out in Brisbane, is widely expected to return for the day-night Test in Adelaide. If both Cummins and Lyon are included, seamers Brendan Doggett and Michael Neser are the most likely candidates to be omitted.
The Khawaja Question: The return of veteran batter Usman Khawaja presents a conundrum. Khawaja missed the second Test with a back problem, during which Travis Head and Jake Weatherald formed an effective opening partnership. If the partnership is maintained, Khawaja may compete with Josh Inglis for a spot in the middle order, where Head currently bats.
Australia holds a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-Test series. Since the start of the series, the pace bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the remainder of the series with hamstring and Achilles problems. Fast bowler Jhye Richardson is also joining the squad in Adelaide to continue rehabilitation from a shoulder injury, signaling potential depth options for later in the series.
The third Test starts on 17 December (23:30 GMT, 16 December), presenting a must-win situation for the English side, who have now retreated to the coastal town of Noosa for a brief break before returning to training on Sunday. England has never successfully recovered from a 2-0 deficit to win the Ashes.
