PERTH — The architect of WA Labor’s historic 2021 election landslide, Tim Picton, remains in a critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital following an alleged assault in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The Perth Magistrates Court heard on Sunday that Mr. Picton, 36, is currently in an induced coma after suffering a fractured skull and multiple brain bleeds. Surgeons were reportedly forced to remove part of the strategist’s skull in a desperate, life-saving effort. Prosecutors warned that even if Mr. Picton wakes, he may face permanent disability.
Police found Mr. Picton unconscious outside a licensed venue near James Street and Mountain Terrace around 5:30 AM. Brodie Jake Dewar, 20, of Lesmurdie, has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.
In court, the defense alleged the confrontation began after claims that Mr. Picton was harassing Mr. Dewar’s cousin. While the magistrate warned of a “high likelihood of imprisonment,” Dewar was granted bail with a $20,000 surety and a strict 7 PM to 7 AM curfew.
