HOBART : The reign of LawConnect has come to an end as Master Lock Comanche crossed the finish line in Hobart to claim line honours in the 2025 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
The Supermaxi officially completed the grueling course in two days, five hours, and three minutes, marking a historic fifth victory for the vessel under various sponsorships (previously winning in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022).
The 2025 edition proved to be one of the most punishing in recent memory. Since the Boxing Day start in Sydney Harbour, wild weather conditions forced 33 yachts to retire from the race.
Even the frontrunners were not immune; second-place finisher LawConnect narrowly avoided retirement after the crew was forced to perform emergency repairs on a severely ripped sail mid-race.
The race remained a three-way toss-up as the leaders reached Tasmania’s coast. HSK Scallywag 100, LawConnect, and Master Lock Comanche were locked in a tight tactical battle at Peggy’s Point before Comanche found the extra gear needed to pull away in the final stretch of the Derwent River.
“A moment to savour,” legendary caller Gordon Bray remarked during the live stream as the yacht glided toward the finish, cementing its place as one of the most successful boats in the history of the “Great Race.”
