BRISBANE: In one of the most clinical displays of the Australian summer so far, Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk has advanced to the Brisbane International final after dismantling World No. 6 Jessica Pegula in straight sets.
In a match that lasted just 54 minutes at Pat Rafter Arena, the World No. 26 secured a staggering 6-0, 6-3 victory, leaving the American top seed searching for answers.
The match began with a whirlwind first set that caught both the crowd and commentators off-guard. While Pegula appeared composed during the warm-up, her game plan disintegrated once play commenced. Kostyuk required only 10 minutes to race to a 4-0 lead.
By the 20-minute mark, the first set was over. Kostyuk’s flawless 6-0 “bagel” of the American superstar was described by commentators as “perfection,” marked by technical soundness and unwavering intensity.

The second set initially followed a similar script, with Kostyuk surging to a 3-0 lead. It wasn’t until the 36th minute of the match that Pegula finally managed to hold serve and get on the scoreboard.
Despite a brief late-set rally where Pegula claimed two more games, Kostyuk remained “dialled in.” The Ukrainian’s mental fortitude ensured there was no comeback, closing out the set 6-3 to book her place in the championship match.
Kostyuk moves on to face a formidable opponent in the final: World No. 1 and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka. The Sunday final is expected to be a high-octane clash between two of the tour’s hardest hitters.
