WSU Medical Student Lidija Faamau Dies Following Pursuit Crash

21 year old Lidija Faamau remains in Liverpool Hospital.

SYDNEY : The Western Sydney community is in mourning following the death of 21-year-old Lidija Faamau, a dedicated medical student who spent a month fighting for her life after a horrific high-speed collision involving a stolen vehicle.

Lidija was in the midst of pursuing a Bachelor of Medical Science at Western Sydney University (WSU) when her life was tragically upended on December 10. Friends and faculty describe her as an “innocent and ambitious” young woman with a promising future in healthcare.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 PM on the Hume Highway in Sydney’s South-West. Lidija was traveling in a BMW with two female friends when a stolen utility vehicle, allegedly fleeing from police, careened through a red light and smashed into their car.

While her two friends have since been released from the hospital, Lidija suffered critical injuries that required a month of intensive care. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals—her future colleagues—she passed away this week.

Tributes have begun to flow for the 21-year-old, with classmates describing her as a “shining light” in the WSU medical program. The university community has expressed deep shock, offering support to those who knew her.

A report is currently being prepared for the Coroner as the investigation into the circumstances of the pursuit and the resulting crash continues.
