BRISBANE: Aryna Sabalenka didn’t just win a trophy at the Brisbane International on Sunday; she may have just set a wedding date.

After a dominant performance to secure her 22nd career title, the World No. 1 took to the microphone at Pat Rafter Arena to deliver a post-match speech that has gone viral for its humor and boldness.

Following her straight-sets victory over Marta Kostyuk, Sabalenka turned her attention to her support box. After thanking her team for “handling” her difficult temperament, she zeroed in on her partner.

“And thank you to my boyfriend. Hopefully, soon I can call you something else, right?” Sabalenka said with a mischievous laugh as the crowd roared. She quickly added, “That is just [me] putting some extra pressure.”

While her partner looked on with a mix of shock and amusement, the tennis star proved once again why she is one of the most charismatic figures on the WTA tour.

Despite the lighthearted ending, the match itself was a display of Sabalenka’s clinical power. She brushed aside the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3, successfully defending her title and signaling to the rest of the tour that she is the woman to beat as the Australian summer of tennis heats up.

With the Brisbane trophy in her cabinet, Sabalenka looks toward the 2026 United Cup and the first Grand Slam of the year. Whether her boyfriend takes the “hint” before the next final remains to be seen.
