Darwin, 09 February:
Pakistan’s stance appears to be softening. They may play against India in the T20 World Cup, but only if the ICC agrees to three conditions. This has been reported by both Pakistani and Indian media outlets.
After Bangladesh was excluded from the World Cup, Pakistan stood by Litton Das, Mustafizur Rahman, and their teammates by boycotting a group-stage match. Following this decision, the ICC was forced to take the matter seriously. To resolve the situation and persuade Pakistan to play against India, discussions were held yesterday involving all parties. Although initially it was supposed to be a two-party meeting, the PCB and ICC ensured Bangladesh was included in the talks.
The meeting took place in Pakistan, where BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul was present. On the other side, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi held discussions with ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja. After the meeting, it was learned that Mohsin Naqvi would meet Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and announce a final decision soon.
Before a final decision is made, media reports suggest that Pakistan has placed three conditions. Pakistan will play against India if the ICC agrees to these demands. However, Indian and Pakistani media are reporting different versions of the conditions.
Indian media outlet NDTV reported that Pakistan will play if Bangladesh is compensated.
According to NDTV, the three conditions are:
Bangladesh must be compensated.
Bangladesh must receive the T20 World Cup participation fee.
Bangladesh must be granted hosting rights for a future ICC tournament.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s media outlet Geo News reported that all three conditions are centered on Pakistan itself. According to their report, the conditions are:
Pakistan’s current revenue share from the ICC must be increased.
Bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan must be resumed.
During the 2025 Asia Cup, Indian players did not shake hands with Pakistani players; Pakistan has demanded assurances that India will not repeat such behavior in the future.
