Australia Orders Diplomats’ Families to Leave Israel and Lebanon

Darwin, 25 February:

The government of Australia has instructed the families of its diplomats stationed in Israel and Lebanon to leave the two countries due to worsening security conditions in the region.

According to officials, the move was taken as a precautionary measure amid escalating instability across the Middle East. While the evacuation order applies specifically to Israel and Lebanon, family members of Australian diplomats in United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Qatar have been advised — though not formally ordered — to consider departing voluntarily.

The development comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions, including renewed rhetoric from Donald Trump, who recently defended a tougher stance on Iran in a speech to the US Congress.

Australian authorities said the decision was communicated publicly through the government’s official travel advisory platform, Smart Traveller, to ensure affected personnel and their families were informed promptly.

Officials emphasized that the measures are precautionary and will be reviewed depending on how the security situation evolves.
