Finn Allen produced one of the most explosive knocks in T20 World Cup history, smashing a stunning 33-ball century to guide New Zealand to a commanding nine-wicket win over South Africa in the first semi-final at Eden Gardens.
Chasing 170, New Zealand raced to 173 for 1 in just 12.5 overs, dismantling South Africa’s bowling attack with ease. Allen’s breathtaking hundred set a new benchmark for the fastest century in T20 World Cup history.
The previous record was held by Chris Gayle, who had scored a 47-ball century against England in the 2016 tournament. Allen shattered that mark in spectacular fashion, reaching three figures in only 33 deliveries.
With just one run needed for victory and four required for his hundred, Allen fittingly sealed both milestones with a boundary off Marco Jansen, sending New Zealand into the final in emphatic style.
Earlier, South Africa had posted 169 for 8 after being asked to bat, but the total proved no match for New Zealand’s relentless chase.
