Darwin, 15 June : Ivory Coast secured a dramatic 1–0 victory over Ecuador thanks to a stoppage-time goal in a tightly contested match full of chances and near misses.
From the very beginning, both teams launched wave after wave of attacks and counterattacks, but neither side was able to find the breakthrough for most of the game.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 90th minute by substitute Amad Diallo, who scored the winning goal for the Ivorians.
The decisive moment came after Wilfried Singo carried the ball forward from midfield and set up Diallo inside the box. The Manchester United forward took a composed first touch before calmly finishing into the net.
Diallo’s impact off the bench proved decisive, sealing victory for the “Elephants” in a thrilling encounter that ended 1–0 in favour of Ivory Coast.
Both sides fought evenly throughout the match, with constant attacking moves, goalmouth action, and even a bicycle kick attempt among the highlights.
The game also featured several shots hitting the woodwork. So far in this World Cup, there have been nine shots against the post. Four of them came in this match alone—three for Ecuador and one for Ivory Coast.
Ecuador hit the post twice in the 23rd and 30th minutes, while Ivory Coast also struck the woodwork once in the 52nd minute.
This match added another dramatic chapter to a tournament already full of near misses and fine margins.
