Darwin, 15 June : Japan staged a spirited comeback after falling behind twice to secure an exciting 2–2 draw against the Netherlands.
The Samurai Blue showed great resilience, coming from behind to frustrate the Dutch side in a dramatic encounter.
The match was played at the Dallas Stadium in Texas on Monday morning (Bangladesh time). The first half was largely uneventful, with both teams struggling to create clear chances and no goals scored.
The second half, however, was full of action, producing all four goals.
The Netherlands took the lead in the 51st minute through Virgil van Dijk, who scored with a low header from a cross that went in off the post.
Japan responded quickly, equalizing just six minutes later when Keito Nakamura finished a fine move from the left side.
The Dutch regained the lead in the 64th minute through Crysencio Summerville, marking his first international goal.
Japan refused to back down and found a late equalizer in the 89th minute, as Daichi Kamada headed home to level the score at 2–2.
