Darwin, 12 May: Two Bangladeshi migrant workers have been killed in a deadly Israeli drone strike in the southern Lebanese village of Jibbeen, according to a statement from the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon in the Jibbeen area of Nabatieh district, where their residential accommodation was reportedly hit during the attack.
The deceased have been identified as Shafiqul Islam and Md. Nahidul Islam.
Shafiqul Islam was from the Valuka Chandpur area in Satkhira Sadar, Bangladesh. He was the son of Afsar Ali and Ajea Khatun. Nahidul Islam was from Kadakati in Ashashuni upazila. His father is Abdul Kader and his mother is Nurun Nahar Khatun.
In a condolence message sent to the media, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut confirmed the details, saying the two men were killed on the spot when an Israeli airstrike hit their residence around 12:00 pm local time in southern Lebanon. Their bodies were later taken to Nabih Berri Hospital in Nabatieh.
The embassy expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
The incident has caused shock and concern among the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Lebanon, amid ongoing tensions along the Lebanon–Israel border.
Southern Lebanon has been witnessing frequent Israeli air and drone strikes, with reports indicating that both civilians and foreign workers in the region are increasingly being affected by the ongoing violence.
