Darwin, 27 June : Argentina’s opponent in the World Cup knockout stage has now been confirmed. Lionel Scaloni’s side will face Cape Verde, who have made history by reaching the Round of 32 for the first time.
Cape Verde secured their place in the next round as the second team from Group H after a goalless draw against Saudi Arabia. This result confirmed Argentina’s first opponent in the knockout stage.
The historic match will take place on July 4 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, starting at 4:00 AM Bangladesh time.
Argentina had already secured their knockout ticket earlier after defeating Austria. Their place as group champions was confirmed when Algeria defeated Jordan, ensuring the Albiceleste topped the group with a match to spare.
Making their World Cup debut this year, Cape Verde have achieved an incredible feat by drawing all of their group-stage matches.
From Group H, they advanced to the knockout stage unbeaten, finishing as the second-qualified team and earning a place in the Round of 32 for the first time in their history.
