Darwin, August 16 : Darwin witnessed a new dawn for Bangladesh cricket today. In a historic triumph on Australian soil, the Tigers defeated the hosts by nine wickets to write a new chapter in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Tanzid Hasan’s century with the bat, Hasan Mahmud’s fiery nine-wicket haul with the ball, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s spinning brilliance combined to seal a memorable victory after four days of intense battle.

After bowling Australia out for 198, Bangladesh produced a magnificent 426 in Darwin. The hosts were then dismissed for 284 in their second innings, leaving Bangladesh with a target of just 57 runs, which the Tigers chased comfortably. Cameron Green was Australia’s top scorer.

At one stage, Green had become a serious threat to Bangladesh. But once the Tigers dismissed him, Australia were effectively knocked out of the contest. The hosts lost their ninth wicket at 278, and there was no way back. Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed his fifth wicket to complete Australia’s collapse. Nathan Lyon was the final batter to be dismissed, trapped lbw.

Earlier, Hasan Mahmud struck with the very first ball he bowled on the fourth day, producing a crucial breakthrough. He bowled Green with a delivery around off stump. Green scored 104 off 201 balls, including four fours and a six. Hasan, who had taken six wickets in the first innings, picked up his third wicket of the second innings, taking his match tally to nine.

Green was given a lifeline on 95 early in the second session. The Australian batter took full advantage of the reprieve and went on to complete a century. However, despite reaching three figures in a difficult situation for his team, he could not extend his innings much further.

After lunch, Bangladesh claimed Australia’s eighth wicket in the third over. On the fifth ball of the 87th over, Taskin Ahmed had Mitchell Starc caught by Litton Das.

Starc scored 18 off 34 balls, hitting two fours. His partnership with Cameron Green was worth 43 runs. Australia were 250 for 8 at that stage, holding a 22-run lead.

Bangladesh also dominated the first session of the fourth day. Cameron Green was the lone fighter for Australia, and his half-century helped the hosts take a 15-run lead into lunch. Green was unbeaten on 85, his highest Test score on home soil, while Mitchell Starc was not out on 14.

Miraz worked his spin magic during the first hour and a half, dismissing Alex Carey, Beau Webster and Pat Cummins. His outstanding bowling suggested that Bangladesh might wrap up the match with an innings victory. However, a partnership between Green and Starc gave Australia the lead in the second innings. At the end of Sunday’s first session, Australia were 243 for 7.

Australia resumed the day on 161 for 4 in their second innings. They lost their fifth wicket in the seventh over of the day when Miraz dismissed Alex Carey, breaking his 56-run partnership with Green. Carey scored 30 from 72 balls before being caught by Litton Das.

Beau Webster also failed to stay at the crease alongside the unbeaten Green, who was celebrating his first half-century in 13 innings and 13 months. Miraz bowled Webster for five.

Pat Cummins then came in to support Green but managed only eight runs before being caught by Shadman Islam. Miraz claimed that wicket as well, completing his third wicket of the new day and fourth of the innings. Australia’s seventh wicket fell at 207.

The hosts had begun their second innings 228 runs behind Bangladesh, but despite Green’s century, they could not withstand the Tigers’ relentless bowling attack. Bangladesh ultimately completed a historic nine-wicket victory on Australian soil.
