Darwin, August 30: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to further increase Ukraine’s long-range drone attacks against Russia. He said a target has been set to carry out at least 1,000 drone strikes every day, according to an Al Jazeera report.

In a speech on Friday night, Zelensky said Ukraine needs to further strengthen its retaliatory capabilities as Russia continues to carry out deadly attacks across Ukraine.

He said Ukraine is currently believed to be launching around 300 drone strikes a day. If the new plan is implemented, that number would increase more than threefold. Zelensky said, “It needs to be even more. There is a specific target, and we will achieve it.”

Meanwhile, Zelensky also spoke about the recent visit to Moscow by John Ratcliffe, the head of the US intelligence agency. He said Washington had briefed Kyiv on recent meetings held in Moscow.

Zelensky said several meetings had taken place but did not provide details. The Ukrainian president also thanked the United States for sharing the information.

The Kremlin said Ratcliffe met with Russian intelligence officials during his visit to Moscow. However, the Kremlin said he did not meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow comes amid stalled peace talks and is being viewed as a rare instance of high-level direct intelligence contact between the United States and Russia.
