Democrats Take Control of the Senate, Delivering Political Blow to Trump
Darwin, November 4: The Democratic Party has secured a major victory in the US midterm elections, taking control of the Senate following an unexpected win…
Democrats are poised to make significant gains in the US midterm elections. CBS News has projected that the Democrats will take control of the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, in the Senate, the party is seeking to regain the majority by winning several seats currently held by Republicans.
According to CBS News projections, Democrats are set to take control of the 435-seat House of Representatives. A party needs 218 seats to secure a majority. Before the election, the chamber was controlled by President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.
If Democrats gain control of the House, they will have the power to launch investigations into the Trump administration and issue subpoenas during the final two years of his presidency. This would give them greater opportunities to strengthen congressional oversight of the administration’s activities.
Meanwhile, Democrats are also making progress in the Senate. So far, the party has won 11 seats, including a seat in North Carolina previously held by Republicans.
According to the available information, Democrats need to win six more seats to regain control of the Senate. However, the party will have to wait for the results in the remaining races before the Senate majority can be determined.
The US Congress consists of two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Both chambers are currently controlled by Republicans. If Democrats take control of the House following the midterm elections, the balance of power in Congress will shift. If they also gain control of the Senate, the Trump administration will face new political challenges in passing legislation and shaping national policies.
