New Zealand earthquake news,In New Zealand, a powerful earthquake has shaken the North Island’s lower regions. The epicentre of Wednesday’s magnitude 6.1 earthquake was located 50 kilometres north-west of the town of Paraparaumu, which is approximately 10 kilometres north of the capital, Wellington, and had a depth of 48 kilometres. The quake occurred at 7:38 p.m. (local time 5:38 AEDT).

After the earthquake, more than 60,600 individuals registered it on Geonet.

The majority described the earthquake as mild, while 72 described it as severe. The whole island chain felt it, from the northernmost tip to the southernmost point. The slow roll, felt in downtown Christchurch for nearly a minute, was felt by the locals.

On February 3, a powerful earthquake struck 5 kilometres south of Te Aroha, a town in the northern part of the North Island, with a magnitude of 6.

New Zealand has been rocked by two natural disasters in as many days; cyclone Gabrielle killed four people and created the greatest devastation in a generation, according to Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.
