Detectives investigating the suspicious death of an 84-year-old grandmother in Sydney’s northwest have made an arrest, taking a 50-year-old woman into custody.
Irene Selmes was tragically discovered with upper body injuries in the bedroom of her Comet St home in Melonba on Saturday, October 4, after emergency services were called to the property around 12:30 pm.
NSW Police quickly launched a special task force to investigate the circumstances surrounding the grandmother’s death.
The 50-year-old woman was arrested on Comet St on Thursday afternoon and subsequently taken to Mount Druitt Police Station.
At this stage, police have not disclosed any further details about the arrested woman or her potential relationship to the victim. Authorities confirmed that no charges have been laid yet as inquiries remain ongoing.
The local community was rocked by the incident, with neighbors expressing shock and concern in the days following the discovery.
Police confirmed that Irene Selmes was last seen alive at approximately 9:30 pm on Friday, October 3, just 15 hours before a concerned family member raised the alarm by calling Triple-0.
