SYDNEY— A 17-year-old boy has died after being fatally stabbed in Sydney’s north-west this afternoon, prompting a murder investigation and the arrest of one young male suspect.
The incident occurred just after 4:20 pm at a reserve in Beaumont Hills, located outside the Ironbark Ridge Public School. Police report that the 17-year-old and one other person were approached by a group of two or three other boys.
According to investigators, a brief conversation took place before one of the boys allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the thigh. The attackers immediately fled the scene.

A crime scene has been declared as police search for the alleged attackers.
A number of female witnesses in the park called emergency services and bravely attempted to render first aid. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 17-year-old boy died at the scene due to his injuries.
At approximately 7:00 pm, a 15-year-old boy presented himself to a police station accompanied by his parents. He was placed under arrest and is currently assisting police with the ongoing investigation.
Police are continuing their urgent search for at least one, possibly two, other young males who were part of the group that approached the victims.
Superintendent Naomi Moore spoke to the media tonight, describing the event as a “senseless” tragedy that has impacted the core of the community.
While investigations are in their infancy, Superintendent Moore stressed the attack did not appear to be random, suggesting there is “potentially some connection” between the groups. However, there are currently no signs to indicate the incident was gang-related.
Moore praised the bystanders who intervened, noting their great courage in a potentially dangerous situation.
