Darwin, 17 December: In the 2025 IPL mini-auction, the most expensive cricketer was Australian fast bowler Cameron Green. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for ₹25.2 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. This new record broke the previous one held by Mitchell Starc.
Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana joined KKR on Tuesday for ₹18 crore, despite having a base price of only ₹2 crore. With this, he became the second most expensive buy of the auction.
Another major surprise of the auction was Indian uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him for ₹14.2 crore, even though his base price was just ₹30 lakh. He scored 334 runs in 11 innings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and also scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut. At the same price, CSK also bought uncapped all-rounder Prashant Veer. Prashant scored 320 runs and took 8 wickets in 10 matches in the UP Premier League.
Among other expensive purchases, England’s Liam Livingstone was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹13 crore. Mustafizur Rahman was picked up by KKR for ₹9.2 crore.
Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis moved to Lucknow Super Giants for ₹8.6 crore. Indian uncapped all-rounder Aaqib Nabi Dar was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹8.4 crore.
Rajasthan Royals bought Ravi Bishnoi for ₹7.2 crore, Gujarat Titans picked up Jason Holder for ₹7 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought Venkatesh Iyer for ₹7 crore, and RCB also signed Mangesh Yadav for ₹5.2 crore. Chennai Super Kings bought Rahul Chahar for ₹5.2 crore, while Delhi Capitals signed Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka for ₹4 crore.
The IPL auction has already generated huge excitement among teams and fans. With Cameron Green’s record-breaking deal and several high-profile signings, this blockbuster auction is expected to have a major impact on team combinations and the overall competition in the upcoming tournament.
