Bangladesh Create History with Record-Breaking Victory in Australia
Darwin, August 16 : Darwin witnessed a new dawn for Bangladesh cricket today. In a historic triumph on Australian soil, the Tigers defeated the hosts…
MOUNT MAUNGANUI : New Zealand completed a clinical 2-0 series victory over the West Indies on Monday, bowling the visitors out for a meager 138 to secure a massive 323-run win in the third and final Test.
The victory, achieved just after tea on day five, catapults the Black Caps into second place in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, trailing only Australia.
A Historic Opening Partnership The match will be remembered for the unprecedented dominance of the New Zealand opening pair. Tom Latham and Devon Conway became the first opening duo in the history of Test cricket to both score centuries in both innings of the same match.
Conway, in a masterclass of batting, joined an elite club of just ten players to score a double-century (227) and a century (100) in a single Test. Captain Tom Latham anchored the side with scores of 137 and 101, allowing the hosts to declare with a mountain of runs on the scoreboard.
The Slump: 10 Wickets for 51 Runs Chasing a world-record target of 462, the West Indies appeared steady at 87-0. However, the momentum shifted violently as the visitors collapsed, losing all ten wickets for just 51 runs.
Fast bowler Jacob Duffy was the architect of the destruction, claiming 5-42 to finish a prolific series with 23 wickets. Spinner Ajaz Patel provided the perfect complement, bamboozling the middle order to finish with 3-23.
Captain’s Reactions “It was a pretty clinical performance,” said New Zealand captain Tom Latham. “Winning the toss, batting first, getting close to 600—it’s the perfect blueprint.”
In contrast, West Indies skipper Roston Chase offered a blunt self-assessment after scoring just 42 runs across the series. “I thought I let myself down and the team down as well,” Chase admitted. “I didn’t really lead from the front on the field.”
