BRISBANE : A 43-year-old British national is currently in immigration detention and faces deportation from Australia after his visa was revoked following allegations of promoting pro-Nazi ideology and hate speech.
The man, a resident of Caboolture in Queensland, was arrested following an investigation into his social media activity on the platform X (formerly Twitter). Police allege he used the platform to display the Nazi swastika and incite violence against the Jewish community.
Home Affairs Minister Takes Action Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed the visa cancellation on Wednesday, sending a stern warning to foreign nationals residing in Australia. “He came here to hate — he doesn’t get to stay,” Burke told the ABC. “If you come to Australia on a visa, you are here as a guest.”
The Investigation Authorities began tracking the man’s digital footprint in October. After his initial account was blocked by X for offensive content, he allegedly created a secondary account to continue his activities. A late-November raid on his home uncovered a cache of weapons, including phones and several swords adorned with swastika symbols.
The man currently faces three counts of displaying banned Nazi symbols and one count of using the internet to cause offense. While he is scheduled for a court appearance in January, authorities are weighing whether to proceed with legal prosecution before his mandatory removal from the country.
