MANCHESTER : Antoine Semenyo is nearing a career-defining decision as Manchester City move into advanced talks to secure the Bournemouth forward in the upcoming January window.
Sources indicate that City have made significant progress in recent days, positioning themselves as the favorites to land the 25-year-old Ghana international. Semenyo, who has been a standout performer for the Cherries since his move from Bristol City in 2023, is reportedly a top priority for Pep Guardiola as he looks to solidify his attacking options for a four-front title charge.
The deal hinges on a specific £65m release clause included in the contract Semenyo signed in July. Crucially, this clause is only active for the first 10 days of January. While the price is expected to drop slightly in the summer, City are keen to act now to avoid a bidding war.
Despite enquiries from Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea, City appear to have a clear run.
Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest, expecting the player to head to the Etihad.
Chelsea have opted not to pursue the deal at this stage.
Liverpool remain a wildcard following Alexander Isak’s recent injury, though they have yet to accelerate talks.
Cherries boss Andoni Iraola admitted the situation is largely out of the club’s hands. “Antoine right now is our player… but every time the market opens, you never know what is going to happen,” Iraola said. Bournemouth are reportedly willing to negotiate a deal that would allow Semenyo to remain at the Vitality Stadium on loan until the end of the season, though City may prefer an immediate arrival.
