PERTH : The Hobart Hurricanes’ BBL campaign has suffered a massive setback with power-hitter Tim David officially ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The 29-year-old sustained a Grade 2 right hamstring strain during Friday’s clash against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium. David was in the midst of a characteristic blitz, sitting on 42 off just 28 balls, before pulling up lame after completing a quick single.
The injury was immediately apparent to those on the field. Scorchers bowler Andrew Tye, who was mic’d up for the Fox Cricket broadcast, noted that David mouthed the word “hammy” as soon as the medical staff arrived.

“He knows straight away,” Michael Hussey observed during the commentary. “It’s probably the right move, get him off the field.” David eventually walked off the ground with a look of bitter disappointment, ending his tournament prematurely.
Despite the BBL exit, Cricket Australia (CA) provided a silver lining for national fans. In a statement released today, CA confirmed that David’s rehabilitation is already underway.
“David’s rehabilitation timeline has him tracking to be available for selection for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and India,” the statement read. With the tournament set to begin in early February, David faces a race against time to regain full match fitness.
