Australia Reach Knockout Stage Despite Draw, Paraguay Still in Contention
Darwin, 26 June : Australia secured a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage despite being held to a goalless draw by Paraguay…
PERTH: Australia’s most beloved football icon, Sam Kerr, and US international star Kristie Mewis have officially tied the knot. The couple exchanged vows in an intimate New Year’s Eve ceremony in Kerr’s hometown of Perth, surrounded by approximately 120 close friends and family.
The ceremony was as much a celebration of their new family as it was their marriage. The couple, who welcomed their son Jagger Mewis-Kerr in May, made him a central part of the proceedings. Mewis had previously joked that seeing Jagger involved in the ceremony would leave her in tears—a prediction that likely came true as she walked down the aisle in a stunning white gown and long-flowing veil under the Western Australian sun.
In a relatable “dad” moment, Kerr was spotted arriving at the private residence wearing a sharp black tuxedo while carrying a baby bottle, ready for her parental duties.
The couple’s romance first captured global hearts during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when Mewis was seen comforting Kerr on the pitch following a match. They publicly confirmed their relationship shortly after and announced their engagement in late 2023 with a viral Instagram post showing Kerr on one knee.

The day before the wedding, Kerr shared a lighthearted post from the gym, quipping: “Last day I ever have to hear about the wedding shred.” Meanwhile, Mewis teased the event with a series of “all-white” outfit photos captioned simply with “Tomorrow.”
While the pair are now officially wed, a honeymoon will have to wait. Both athletes have significant club and international commitments, though Mewis previously hinted that a post-season holiday might coincide with the men’s World Cup.
