Darwin, 15 January: Denmark has announced plans to increase its military presence in Greenland amid growing geopolitical tensions surrounding the strategically important Arctic territory.

According to officials, Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers recently held closed-door talks with senior U.S. officials at the White House. The discussions focused on security cooperation and regional stability in the Arctic.

The move comes after renewed interest from the United States regarding Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory under Danish sovereignty. Denmark has firmly rejected any proposal to transfer control of Greenland, emphasizing that the island’s future lies in cooperation, not ownership.

Denmark also said several European allies, including Germany and France, have expressed support and are considering sending troops or military personnel to Greenland as part of joint security efforts.

Officials stressed that the steps are aimed at strengthening defense capabilities and ensuring stability in the Arctic, a region of growing strategic importance due to global power competition.
