‘Three Australian Were on U.S. Submarine That Sank Unarmed Iranian Warship’

Iranian Navy Ship attacked by US submarine

Darwin, 06 March:

Three Australian nationals were aboard a U.S. nuclear-powered submarine that sank an Iranian military vessel in the Indian Ocean.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the information in an interview with Sky News on Friday.

Albanese said, “Normally we do not confirm matters of this nature. However, considering the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting and the public interest, I can confirm that three Australian nationals were on that submarine.” He stressed that no Australian personnel took part in any offensive operation against Iran.

Albanese also said the three Australians were aboard the allied submarine to gain operational experience as part of the trilateral security pact AUKUS.

Last Wednesday, a U.S. submarine launched a torpedo strike targeting the Iranian warship IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sri Lanka. At least 87 Iranian sailors were killed in the attack, while 32 others were rescued. Several sailors remain missing.

The Iranian vessel had participated in a military exercise in India and was reportedly unarmed while returning to Iran after the drill. According to reports, the U.S. submarine carried out the attack without any prior warning, raising questions about compliance with international law.
