4 Killed in Clashes Over NCP Rally in Gopalganj, 22-Hour Curfew Imposed

Melbourne, July 17— A tense situation prevails in Gopalganj, Bangladesh, following a daylong bloody clash and casualties surrounding a rally organized by the National Citizen Party (NCP), a political party formed by former student leaders of the mass uprising. To restore order, the local administration imposed a 22-hour curfew from 8 PM on Wednesday (July 15) to 6 PM on Thursday (July 16).

According to local sources, tension had been mounting since Wednesday morning over the NCP’s pre-announced program. As the day progressed, clashes broke out in various parts of Gopalganj between NCP activists and members of the ruling Awami League and its student wing, Chhatra League. Eventually, the violence turned deadly.
